A313-IsokeI think they're looking for experience in a variety of media and mastery of those materials. It would be very difficult to be an art therapist helping patients adapt to the materials without your own significant experience in art. Maybe, look into a post bac program at an art school. School of the Art Institute of Chicago has one, UC Berkeley Extension has one, School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts has one, etc. Some are low res, hybrid, 100% online, or 100% in person so you can find something that works for your schedule and is in your budget.

I’m currently applying to art therapy graduate programs and some of the programs I’m applying to (NYU, Pratt, Notre Dame Baltimore, and George Washington) are MA in art therapy programs whereas SVA has an MPS program. I’m a little unsure about the differences between the degrees in terms of art therapy, as well as which degree is more employable. If anyone has any insight I’d really appreciate it! or any opinions/insights about the schools I’m applying to.

crybabybodhiHi All, I'm considering a pivot from my grad school path and would love to hear feedback about the Art Therapy specific track versus a standard Masters in counseling, SW, MFT. Do you feel like the art-specific courses and learning environment were helpful and worth your time and money? I could keep chugging on the standard path toward counseling, or extend my school to include the Art Therapy prereqs and what not. A bit more time and more money. I'm also wondering if anyone who did an online Masters of Art Therapy had a difficult/easy time arranging their practicum + internship hours and how it actually worked out via online? Thank you guys!
