I know some people wanted a MENA actor in the role, but Anne Rice spoke in the past about the importance of casting a Black actor after the response Black fans had to Aaliyah in the role. Also, I think race and ethnicity were different in Ancient times than whom we assume occupies geographic regions today.

SssuspiriaI think it is fair to be a bit disappointed because it’s a missed opportunity but there’s no point dwelling on it: we also have no idea what their plans for the character are. Maybe she’s from Kemet like Enkil in this iteration, rather than Uruk. SA seems great and everyone involved with the show seems very excited about her which means she must have killed it chemistry screenings. She, as an individual, shouldn’t and doesn’t deserve to « pay » for the sin of MENA erasure in Hollywood because this isn’t on her. It doesn’t make sense and would be a shame not to give her a chance for that alone. I’ll be very disappointed if they fail to cast MENA actors for other VC characters, though.

You are correct, however, that it is a missed opportunity when companies in the past have not accurately cast characters based on their geographical or ethnic background, especially when adapting from a book. This is a common occurrence, such as with characters from Egypt. The main point is that there were high expectations for Akasha. The previous actress who portrayed Akasha left a significant impression on the entertainment industry.
